Filipino Rural Scenes
Morning light on the rice terraces, a carabao at the edge of a paddy, a village that wakes before the heat. In this collection, we bring together paintings of everyday life in the Philippine countryside, each one a window into a quieter, slower rhythm of home.

Paintings of Philippine rural life
Rural scenes are one of the oldest subjects in Filipino painting, and they still say something about home. This collection holds 17 original paintings of life in the countryside: farmers working the field, washing at the stream, the walk home at the end of the day, and wide landscapes of rice paddies and hills.
Several pieces show farm work in stages. Gabriel Alcantara Mendiola Jr. of San Mateo, Rizal paints Pag-aararo (ploughing), Pagsusuyod (harrowing) and Pag-uwi (going home), alongside river scenes such as Laba sa Batis. Richard Buenaflor of Imus, Cavite works in oil, and Jhon Paul Alivio of Zamboanga del Sur contributes large canvases, including the Cagsawa Ruins. Felix Catarata of Bogo City, Cebu is here too.
Most of the paintings are acrylic or oil on canvas, from about 22 by 26 inches up to 4 by 6 feet. They suit a living room, a dining room or an office that could use a quieter view. 17 are available now, from ₱5,500. Each is a one-of-one original sold directly by the artist.
For wider views, see Landscapes. For the sea, there is Tales of the Tide, or browse all original paintings.
What are Filipino rural scene paintings?
Paintings of everyday life in the Philippine countryside: farming, rice fields, carabaos, rivers, nipa huts and village life. Filipino painters have returned to the subject for generations, and it remains a favourite with collectors of Philippine art.
Are these paintings originals or prints?
Originals. Each one is the single painting the artist made by hand. We don't sell prints or editions, so once a piece sells it can't be bought again.
Where should I hang a rural landscape painting?
Living rooms and dining rooms are the usual choice, because a landscape gives the eye somewhere calm to rest. Large canvases work best on a main wall. Every listing gives the exact size in inches, so you can mark the outline on your wall before deciding.
Can I commission a rural scene from one of these artists?
Yes. Each artwork page has a button to message the artist, and a sold or reserved piece has a button to request a commission. Prices and timing are agreed with the artist.
