Rhythm

Two farmers in wide-brimmed straw hats bend low over the crop, one in the foreground in a pale shirt and red skirt, the other further back beside a carabao. Intersecting strokes of gold, green and brown carry the eye across the paddy toward blue mountains and a bright, cloud-filled sky. The textured brushwork follows the artist’s idea of the rhythm of the rice fields, giving the scene a steady, working pulse and a warm, unhurried mood. A natural fit for collectors of Philippine art, Filipino landscape painting and agrarian genre scenes, it has the scale to anchor a living room, dining area or office wall, and pairs well with other works on farm life, labor and the Philippine countryside.
