Fruits and Daisies is the first part of my series on the harvest table. This realist still life sets ripe watermelon, melon, dragon fruit, apples, and heavy bunches of grapes on a rumpled white cloth, with white daisies and violet wildflowers spilling from a woven basket. Behind them, a hazy blue-green hillside opens into a provincial landscape, and warm afternoon light catches the fruit skins and the folds of linen. The mood is abundant and unhurried, like a table set outdoors for a slow Sunday. Collectors of Philippine art, fruit and flower still life, and realism will find a piece that brings the countryside indoors.
